Global Citizen’s Economic Development Assembly

Challenge

As part of preparations for its Economic Development Assembly, scheduled for October 2024, Global Citizen enlisted THOP to provide strategic advisory support. The goal was to ensure strong visibility through local and international media, manage panel moderation, and coordinate media credentialing. Global Citizen sought to amplify its mission of tackling poverty and inequality by securing widespread engagement around the event.

Solution

THOP delivered a comprehensive advisory and implementation strategy covering all media-facing aspects of the Assembly. This included credentialing, outreach, logistics, content localisation, and media engagement, designed to position Global Citizen as a leader in global economic development conversations.

Tactics

  • Media credentialing and outreach:
Registered top-tier media including France24, RFI, and local Ivorian outlets to attend and cover the event.
  • Panel moderation and speaker alignment:
Sourced and secured respected Ivorian journalist Melina Makissi as a moderator to lead key discussions and represent Global Citizen’s messaging during the event.
  • Media logistics:
Organised dedicated spaces for media operations, including an interview room, a media filing room, and a branded partner zone for outlets such as CNBC Africa.
  • Bespoke content support:
Coordinated French-language press releases and content to align with the Ivorian audience and media landscape.
  • Stakeholder engagement:
Facilitated strategic discussions with platforms including RTI and Abidjan.net to support pre-, during-, and post-event coverage.

Outcome

THOP’s advisory support helped Global Citizen secure media placements with influential platforms and ensured high visibility for the Assembly.
